Francis Read Rafferty "Pat" of Ione, CA passed away in Sacramento, CA at the age of 81. He was born on July 14, 1941, in Redwood City, CA to Joseph and Lorraine (Read) Rafferty.
Francis is survived by his daughter; Jennifer Upton of Ione, CA, son; Robert Rafferty, grandchildren; Logan Rafferty. Kayla Rafferty, Daenerys Rafferty, Amethyst Rafferty, Damon Upton, Hanna Upton, Keith Upton, sister; Kathie Thompson, nieces; Lacey Buskirk, Heather Chacon, and Michelle Leaman, and nephews; Adam Thompson and Michael Thompson. He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Rafferty and his nephew Joseph Rafferty.
The funeral will be at King’s View Assembly of God. 432 W. Marlette St. Ione CA 95640. On August 9,2023 from 4 to 6 PM. Pat grew up in Sutter Creek, CA. Graduated from Amador High School in 1960. He had fun playing basketball for Amador High School. In high school he had a paper route. He delivered papers on the back of his horse named Diablo. After high school he joined the army, where he became a military police officer.
My favorite story he told me of that time was when he and a buddy were patrolling when they came across some people driving on an icy pond doing donuts. He and his buddy told them to get off the ice and not do that again.
When Pat and his buddy’s shift ended. They went and did donuts on the ice. After the army he worked as a bartender at Bellotties in Sutter creek. He worked at Amador city Imperial hotel. He tended bar and helped do the cooking when needed.
He worked at Preston school industries as a counselor. After that he was a handyman and traveled all over the world. He moved in with his daughter and helped with his grandchildren. He had fun making donuts with the kids. He joked saying he made the world's best pancakes and how he and Keith were going to open a restaurant.
