Obituary of Ann Mowry

Ann Mowry passed away January 7, 2024, in Sutter Creek, CA at the age of 103. She was born on August 19, 1920, in Hammerstein, Germany to Franz and Katharina Jurkschat.

Ann, her mother and sister, Lilly were fortunate enough to have gotten on the last train leaving

Berlin, before the Russians invaded Germany in 1945.

Ann worked for Raychem in Redwood City, as a lab chemist, until 1972, when Ann and her husband, Harvey moved to Pioneer, where they built their own home overlooking the Mokelumne River.

Ann enjoyed hiking, especially in Yosemite, gardening, her dogs, and took up watercolor painting, at the young age of 68. Her love of animals was lifelong, ensuring there was always food for birds and deer, in her yard.

Ann is survived by her sister, Lilly Hofmann; nephew, Howard (Sue) Hofmann; niece, Cathy Hofmann, niece, Carol Holmes, niece, Lynne Thompson, and many nieces and nephews in Germany, Canada, and Australia. She was preceded by her husband of 61 years, Harvey H. Mowry; her infant daughter, Claudia; brothers, Gunther, and Ewald Jurkschat; and nephew, Andrew Dewsnup.

A graveside service will take place in March at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Pine Grove, CA.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to A-Pal or

Hospice in lieu of flowers. Anns family wishes to thank the staff at Gold Quartz Inn and Amador Hospice, for the wonderful care they provided her.
